Privacy policy

Sleep.fm plays sounds to help you fall asleep. That is all it does. This page is specific about the little it sends, and about who receives it.

No account, ever

There is no sign-up, no email, no password, no profile. You can use every part of Sleep.fm without telling us who you are, and we have no way to identify you by name.

What stays on your device

Sleep.fm keeps the following locally, and never uploads it:

• the mixes you save, with their sound levels, timer and fade settings
• the mix that was playing last, so it can be resumed
• your preferences: default timer, fade-out, resume-on-open
• whether you have completed the introduction
• whether you have unlocked the full version

We cannot see any of it. Deleting the app deletes it. All sounds are bundled inside the app, so playback works with no network connection at all.

What we send, and to whom

To understand which parts of Sleep.fm are used and to find out when it breaks, the app sends limited technical and usage data to the providers below, who process it on our instructions.

Datadog — RUM and Logs

Datadog, Inc. — hosted in the European Union (EU1 site).

Data: screens opened and usage journeys; which sounds are played, added and removed; timer and fade choices; the answers given during the introduction (what keeps you awake, which sound families you prefer); saved-mix and purchase events; app performance and technical logs; crash reports; device model, operating system version, app version, language; a random session and device identifier; IP address, from which an approximate region is inferred.

Purpose: measuring usage, improving the app, and detecting and fixing faults.

It does not include your name, your email, or the names you give your mixes.

RevenueCat

RevenueCat, Inc. — United States.

Data: the receipt issued by the store, a random purchase identifier, country, device information.

Purpose: confirming and restoring your purchase across your devices.

Apple and Google

Payment is handled entirely by the App Store or Google Play. We never see your card number, billing address or payment details — only whether the purchase succeeded.

This technical data does not identify you by name. Each provider acts only on our instructions and may not use it for its own purposes.

No advertising, no cross-app tracking

Sleep.fm shows no advertising, sells no data, and does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites. No App Tracking Transparency prompt is therefore shown on iOS, because there is nothing to ask about. The app does not request your location, contacts, microphone, camera, photos, or health data.

Your choice

Usage reporting is on by default and can be switched off at any time in Settings → Help improve Sleep.fm. Turning it off stops reporting and discards anything still waiting to be sent. Every feature of the app works identically either way — nothing is withheld from you for declining.

International transfers

RevenueCat processes data in the United States. Those transfers rely on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses. Datadog data is hosted in the European Union.

How long we keep it

Usage and error data is kept for no longer than 14 months.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you may ask what we hold, ask for it to be corrected, erased or exported, restrict or object to its use, and withdraw your consent. Because we hold no name or email, please write from the address you contact us on and describe your device and roughly when you used the app, so we can find the records. You may also delete everything held locally by uninstalling the app, and lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority — in France, the CNIL.

Children

Sleep.fm is suitable for all ages. It shows no advertising and collects nothing beyond what is described above, from anyone.

Changes

If a future version collects something new, this page will be updated before that version is released.
